Professor Ajay Kumar Sharma obtained his B.E. in Agriculture Engineering in the year 1985, M.Tech. in Farm Machinery and Power Engineering in 1992 and PhD from IIT, Kharagpur in the year 1998. Dr Sharma has an experience of more than 35 years of in teaching and research.Professor Ajay Kumar Sharma has held various administrative positions at Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur, Rajasthan. These positions include serving as the Dean of the College of Technology and Engineering (CTAE) and the College of Dairy and Food Technology (CDFT), as well as being a member of the university's Board of Management and Academic Council. Additionally, he has served as the Nodal Officer for the University Legal Cell and Establishment and RTI, as well as the Chairman of the Board of Studies of CTAE and the Games Council of the college
Besides this Prof. Sharma has been a Member: of the Senate, Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur (MNIT), Board of Studies, Rajasthan Technical University, Kota (RTU) and Bikaner Technical University, Bikaner, Rajasthan (BTU). He has been a Convener and member of various committees for different activities: AICTE, New Delhi, Department of Technical Education, Government of Rajasthan, RTU, Kota, BTU, Bikaner, MPUAT, Udaipur. 
Prof. Sharma has supervised a good number of Masters and Doctoral theses. He has published more than 65 research papers and technical articles in journals of repute and has 3 books to his credit. Some of the areas where he has contributed significantly include -Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Soil Dynamics in Tillage and Traction; and Agricultural Machinery Management. He has the honour of being a reviewer as well as being on the editorial board of several prestigious international and national journals in the area of Agricultural Engineering. He has been PI of two prestigious world bank projects IDP (NAHEP, ICAR) and TEQIP (MHRD) of 25 Cr and 10 Cr respectively.
Prof. Sharma has also served as visiting scientist and visiting faculty at several international research institutions and universities such as National Soil Dynamics Laboratory-Alabama (USA), Aburn University-Alabama (USA), Asian Institute of Technology-Bangkok (Thailand) to participate in collaborative research projects and teach Masters and PhD students. He has also served as Guest Lecturer at the University of Hohenheim (Germany) in the division of Agricultural Engineering.
Prof. Sharma has received numerous awards for his contribution to research. These include the Journal of Terramechanics Award, Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana Award-2018 by AICTE, New Delhi and also the Best Teacher Award based on ICAR guidelines by the University. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), a Fellow of- The Institution of Valuers (India), a Life Member of the Asian Association for Agricultural Engineering and a Life Mthe member of the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (New Delhi).
Among the thrust areas which are under immediate consideration of Prof. Sharma are Institutional ranking and accreditation, enhancing institute-industry interaction, enriching both academic as well as cultural flair among students through student-exchange programmes both at the national and international level, MoUs for mutual development, self-sufficiency, commercialization of technologies and rural-development projects for the benefit of stakeholders.
